A
unique gala event and one of the most
prestigious for the South Asian community,
the 2nd Annual MyBindi Awards will be
held on November 7th, 2002 at the Phoenix
Concert Theatre in Toronto. MyBindi.com,
Canada's leading on-line South Asian destination
is all set to bring back this year's red
carpet affair for South Asians. The aim
of the MyBindi Awards Show is to recognize
the talents and contributions of South
Asians in Canada.
MyBindi
has been around for about three years
now and we are amazed at how far we have
gone and accomplished. One of the key
reasons for the website is showcasing
the South Asian presence. The awards are
a line extension of that,' says Manisha
Bawa co-founder of MyBindi. Already a
powerful presence in the community, MyBindi.com
attracts over 1.5 million page views per
month.
The
MyBindi Awards facilitate a people's choice
forum and the winners are selected based
on the results on-line voting. The award
categories span a number of disciplines
in the arts, entertainment, media and
community. Toronto's talented film-maker
Deepa Mehta will be honoured with a Special
Achievement Award at this year's gala
event.
The
Awards show celebrate the talent and achievements
of South Asians and also build bridges
with the mainstream Canadian community.
'The MyBindi Awards Show went very well
last year,' says Manisha. 'There was a
lot of good will and positive feedback
in the air. We wanted to make sure that
it becomes an annual tradition.'
Promising
to be a glitzy affair MyBindi will honour
the winners in style with live performances,
awards presentations and an after-party.
Some
of last year's winners and guest list
included the Canadian minister Allan Rock,
Former Mayor Barbara Hall, Nav Bhatia,
