TIMELESS TAMIL POETRY CELEBRATED
Lata Pada and SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations present Kavya Natyam on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Meadowvale Theatre (6315 Montevideo Road, Mississauga, ON). An evening of classical bharatanatyam dance celebrating the timeless classics of Tamil devotional poetry, Kavya Natyam will feature SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations' company dancers accompanied by Harikrishna Kalyanasundaram on the nattuvangam and vocals by Vidya Harikrishna.
Tickets are $25/$20 for adults and $20/$15 for students and seniors.
Disciple and son of the renowned Guru Kalyanasundaram, Harikrishna Kalyanasundaram belongs to an illustrious lineage of seven generations of master teachers and choreographers specializing in the Tanjavur style of bharatanatyam. Critically acclaimed as an innovative choreographer, solo classical dancer, nattuvanar (conductor) and percussionist on the mridangam (South Indian two-sided drum); he also serves as a director of the Sri Raja Rajeshwari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir in Mumbai, India the same prestigious institution where Artistic Director Lata Pada received her bharatanatyam training.
Vidya Harikrishna is a Carnatic vocalist (South Indian music) and is also the lead singer of the Kala Mandir. She has received accolades for her melodious voice and mastery and range of her voice.
At the forefront of South Asian dance in Canada,Lata Pada and SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations have been internationally recognized for forging new paradigms in Canada's dance landscape. Originally from Bangalore, India, Lata Pada has called Canada home since 1964. Trained under India's eminent gurus Kalaimamani Kalyanasundaram and Padmabhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan, Lata's career spans an impressive spectrum of performance, choreography, teaching and research. Her daring and innovative works include shunya (2008), kshetram – dancing the divine (2007), Vivarta (2005) andHowzaat! (2005). The inter-disciplinary production Revealed by Fire was named by Canada's leading dance critic Michael Crabb as the "most important dance production of 2001".

Hanuman Prasad Mishra, and from their uncle, sarangi virtuoso, Pt. Gopal Prasad Mishra, and started performing while they were still in their teens, their first concert abroad, was in Sri lanka in 1978, and soon they went on to perform in many countries across the world.

All of these celebrations include a series of performances by a wide variety of South Asian artists and performers.
Vancouver Celebrates Diwali's Organizing Committee is currently taking submissions from a wide range of South Asian artists practicing traditional, modern, or fusion art. Artists will be selected by the Diwali Programming Committee and an honorarium will be paid to the selected artists. Each performance or short film can be no longer than 15 minutes. Both solo and group performers are welcome to apply.
