Wedding, Fashion and Lifestyle Show
|
The
SUHAAG Wedding, Fashion and Lifestyle show hit the Toronto
Congress Center with quite a storm on January 19. The show
drew crowds of more than eleven thousand people including
engaged couples, lots of families and curious visitors.
The 110 vendors, having everything to do with weddings and
South Asian lifestyle, entertained and informed the inquiring
guests that attended the event. This event, according to
SUHAAG co-founder Sanjay Agnihotri "has two purposes:
first, to be a complete source for weddings and South Asian
lifestyle; and second, to be a platform for South Asians
to show something different."
Walking around to the crowded booths I was amazed by some
of the sights I saw. Vendors ranged from limo services with
displays of stretch limos, wedding halls, jewelers, garments,
photo labs and studios and no event is complete without
great food which was graciously provided by Bombay Palace.
There were exquisite displays of mandaps - some traditional
and some exotic and after looking at them I wish I were
getting married! The jewelers gave young ladies a glimpse
of some of the 'gehne' (jewelry) they could sport on their
special days. Garments were made for all different occasions
and dominated the other vendors. There were wedding lenghas,
party apparel and regular-wear suits, all of which were
of the newest trends. People really enjoyed looking around
at what the vendors had to offer and this was obvious by
the bright smiles and chatter that were visible all around.
